Business Problem The Chesapeake Bay, the largest estuary in North America, has supported the regions economy for more than 300 years. As development has proceeded and the population of its watershed have grown, the Bays health has declined. In an urbanized watershed the litter a person throws on the ground or the oil dumped into a storm sewer reaches the receiving body in less time than in a more natural area, thus magnifying the human impact, especially during storm events. To change public behavior, the National Aquarium in Baltimore has formed a partnership with the Chesapeake Bay Program, Maryland Department of Natural Resources, ESRI, Towson University, Morgan State University, and various community groups in order to create a web page to teach the people about their impact on the Chesapeake Bay. Though the Aquarium has always been focused on preservation of biological resources, three years ago the Conservation Department was founded with three main foci of action: the Chesapeake Bay, Global Biodiversity, and Ocean Health.
