Business Problem

The City of Greenville has been a long time user of ESRI software. As Customer
Number 26 they have evolved with the technology over time, and continue to
serve as a reference site for Enterprise GIS in South Carolina. ESRI technology is distributed throughout the City to include nearly every aspect of management and operations, including Planning, Zoning, Engineering, Police, Fire, Economic Development, Permitting, and Finance.

They are presently converting from Librarian into ArcSDE to improve functionality and access time. Utilizing ArcMap, the new infrastructure data is being developed in-house using the geodatabase model.

ArcIMS applications are being developed to serve the GIS data to Internet and Intranet users. Custom applications have been developed in-house utilizing MapObjects and ArcPad for desktop and field laptop deployment. Nearly 200 city staff routinely access GIS to assist in the performance of their jobs.

The City of Greenville actively promotes the growth of GIS through leadership and support of new initiatives. These include the Governor's Information Resource Committee on GIS, South Carolina State Mapping Advisory Committee, Greenville Technical College Geomatics advisory board and faculty, Foothills Arc User Network user group, and the Greenville County Geographic Information Alliance.
