Business Problem

Burke County had used GIS technology for several years but we had never developed a method to allow our customers to access it directly. I had considered setting up an application to run on public terminals in our "map room". Tim Ingold with Anderson & Associates demonstrated their iPLUS application (internet Parcel Look Up System). It would allow us to provide free public access to our mapping/GIS/Tax Appraisal databases via the Internet 24/7. users would be able to search the records on various criteria and print the information they found from their home or office computer. Also because Anderson & Associates is able to host the data on their webservers, it would substantially reduce the cost to the county since we do not have to invest in dedicated internet access or servers. Burke County also entered into a partnership with the Burke County Board of Realtors, who are sponsoring the site through its setup and initial 2 years of maintenance.

Technology Implemented

Anderson & Associates developed the iPLUS application using MapObjects.
