Business Problem Educate and motivate business process continuity plan writers with local-scale information about natural hazards and scenario-based information on the regional impacts of earthquakes and flooding. Provide enough detail to allow plan writers to understand better how their team may be impacted by losses at home, transportation impacts on their commute path, and resource availability after a regional disaster. Technology Implemented FEMAs HAZUS loss estimation under ArcView 3.2 and MapInfo, ArcInfo 8.0, ArcSDE 8.0/Oracle NT, ArcIMS 3.0 and ERDAS Imagine Advantage were used to generate scenarios, merge imagery and map graphics, and convey scenario results to plan writers via interactive map service. Development Team Brian B. Quinn Development Team Biography Brian B. Quinn holds a Ph.D. in Geophysics from Stanford University and has worked in geotechnical and environmental engineering applications of remote sensing and spatial data technology. He helped to assemble the national geologic database in Romania between 1996--1998, and has been an instructor for HAZUS at FEMAs Emergency Management Instutute. He is currently with Charles Schwabs Corporate Business Resumption Services department, responsible for enterprise-wide natural hazard modeling. |
