Business Problem

Post-apartheid South Africa required that new municipalities be demarcated according to the democratic principles of the Constitution. GIS technology would prove crucial to the Board finalizing it's work within one year. However, new boundaries mean new geography. The Board embarked on a programme to enable all stakeholders access to information about the new municipalities. Due to bandwidth constraints, products had to be developed that allowed for applications to work in stand alone applications, and MapObjects based CD-ROM software was developed for this. Due to data copyright issues, an online version of the entire geodatabase was created allowing all users full access to the Board's spatial information

Technology Implemented

The following products were used to develop the SA Explorer CD-ROM and Online mapping products:
ArcIMS 3.1
ArcSDE 8.2
Microsoft Visual Interdev (ASP)
MapObjects 2.1
