Business Problem

City GIS implementations have grown in size and complexity; many departments have established GIS operations and are now depend on GIS functionality on a day-to-day basis. This scenario presents challenges for increasing efficiency and effectiveness in providing services both internally and to the public. The security, maintenance, and access to corporate data assets remain critical functions that are further complicated by the rapid evolution of technologies and user expectations.

Technology Implemented

GIS technology establishes the integrating link that enables individual data sources to be accessed and/or visualized as a cohesive whole for use in decision-making. The City has approached GIS implementation in an incremental way; investing in proved technologies while leveraging benefit from earlier data development investments. ArcInfo applications have proven to be the focus of our data maintenance activities while ArcView has been indispensable, flexible, and efficient for data access and visualization. The City is looking forward to implementation of ArcSDE and ArcIMS for enhanced data storage and access capabilities in the future.
