Business Problem

Our primary challenge was to publish our GIS data through the Internet. The data was present but, not in a format which was easy to publish on the net. Another problem was simply getting an acceptable paper copy of our maps. Our previous technology was cumbersome and unpredictable at best. This was especially true when we needed an aerial photograph behind our maps. We needed to be able to quickly generate, customize, and print paper copies of our maps along with their associated data. ,Our primary challenge was to publish our GIS data through the Internet. Technology Implemented

ESRI’s ArcINFO in conjunction with ArcIMS, was our preferred solution. It allowed us to publish our GIS data on the Internet within a short period of time. We began using the software in early January 2002. Our “no frills” GIS data became available via the Internet on March 5, 2002, just under 3 months later.
The technology allows us to generate and maintain our GIS data with relative ease. Maps are generated throughout our organization without compromising the integrity of our data.
One of our major concerns involved mapping our Tax Parcels accurately using COGO. This is easily accomplished within the editor toolbar of the software.
In addition, creating paper maps is a simple and straightforward process. Using the Layout View, anyone who has printed within a Microsoft Windows application, can do it.,ESRI’s ArcINFO in conjunction with ArcIMS, was our preferred solution.
