Business Problem What is the possible influence of this building on the electricmagnetic fields?
Such a massive building equipped with reflecting insulation glass and located between the three runways is likely to influence our communication and navigation equip-ment like instrument landing systems (ILS), radars on the field and the air/ground communication systems bet-ween pilots and controllers.
To monitor the changes in the electromagnetic environment we conducted thorough measurement around the new building every 3 to 6 month. To be able to visualize these changes (of the situation) we used ArcView® GIS. The plots we are able to produce in short notice, enable our management to decide if certain measure are to be taken to guarantee ICAO standards (International Civil Aviation Organization, Chicago) for minimum fieldstrength. Engineers of our department responsible for clear communication between the pilots and the air traffic controllers are able to easily tell possible problem areas and take according action in due course. Technology Implemented How to get maps data?
- measurement field strength with mobile measurement system
- convert data from time to GPS base
- adjust with antenna factor
- calculate the average matrix
- match matrix data with geographical map
- design and plot with ArcView® Development Team Biography Hans-Peter Rechsteiner, air traffic control engineering.
