Business Problem

Consumers Energy began our GIS program with the conversion of thousands of paper gas maps to a CAD environment. Upon completion of the CAD conversion the Company moved to the next phase of the project to implement a full functional GIS system with a single corporate repository for gas facility and landbase geospatial information. The key benefit of the project is associated with easy access to gas facility information (maps), replacement of legacy systems such as gas system planning and code compliance systems. These applications (Leak Survey, Cathodic Protection, Regulator Equipment inspection and Gas Load Flow analysis) are now tightly integrated with Gas GIS System eliminating redundant record updating and providing complex GIS analysis of daily operating issues.
