Business Problem To improve the quality of life for the 14 municipalities in the Meadowlands District, the New Jersey Meadowlands Commission/ Meadowlands Environmental Research Institute GIS have created an interactive mapping application that will allow the municipalities to access critical GIS layers. The mapping application is an interactive map that gives the user the ability to pull critical information about a specific property. For example, information includes ownership data, location of infrastructure and their attributes. The outreach program currently has thee working prototypes. They include the following municipalities: Town of Secaucus, Hudson County, New Jersey; Borough of Carlstadt, Bergen County, New Jersey; and Town of Kearny, Hudson County, New Jersey. Technology Implemented Technology used to build the enterprise GIS solution includes ArcIMS and ArcSDE, with Oracle 8.i to give the municipalities’ access to critical geodatabase layers. Other software includes ArcGIS ArcMap/ ArcView 8.x that will be provided to the municipalities. These programs will give the municipalities the ability to access and connect to a central database located in the Meadowlands Environmental Research Institute GIS. Development Team Biography The development team consists of four full-time staff specialized in the fields of GIS and Computers. The project team is lead by Dom Elefante (GIS Manager), who oversees the development and maintenance of critical GIS layers. Mr. Elefante has been with the Commission for 7 years. Gabrielle Gordon and Adrian Molato, are GIS Specialists who have been with the Commission for 5 and 3 years respectively. Their responsibilities include the maintenance of all GIS layers pertinent to the Commission's regulatory powers, and MERI's scientific research and education. Lastly, Timucin Bakirtas is MERI's GIS Developer/ Programmer. Mr. Bakirtas has been with MERI/ Rutgers for 4 years. His duties include the development and maintenance of GIS maps on the Internet. In addition, Mr. Bakirtas oversees the development of NJMC/ MERI Outreach Program to the Towns using ArcSDE and Oracle.
