Business Problem

There was a dire need to provide an electronic single point of entry with current information and interfaces to various enterprise databases and documents. Specific goals of the project included: delivering current and consistent data, minimizing bottlenecks, improving productivity, and eliminating redundant data entry. Keys to success of the project included: management support, end user enthusiasm, cooperative developers, appropriate training, and phased development.

Redesigning and migrating the coverages to the geodatabase and programming for the Intranet Geospatial Portal with interfaces to enterprise databases was done over the course of several years. The users locate their area of interest by zooming into the map or selecting from a drop down list. The parcels active layer is interfaced to CAMA, AWWU Assessments, AWWU Permits, AWWU CIS, Well/Septic Permits, and Building Permits. The projects active layer is interfaced to project center points, boundaries, proposed pipe and nodes, the Oracle projects database, PeopleSoft, Internet project websites, and Microsoft Exchange. The infrastructure layers (water node, water pipe, sewer node, sewer pipe) are interfaced to the Oracle record drawing index, scanned record drawing tiff images, and Maximo. The excavation layers are interfaced to Maximo work orders including jpeg digital photos.
