Business Problem Solved

In the mid-90’s, Auburn recognized the need to improve departmental efficiency and customer service through better organization and delivery of information and therefore, developed a GIS.

Orthophotography, over 150 map layers, several databases, and GIS software combine in a central location to provide access to information that could be time consuming to research and assemble just a few years ago.

Since early 2003, property owners, real estate companies, legal service providers, and other professionals have mapping and assessing records readily available at home and in the office through a web-based application that allows citizens and businesses to save time and money by reducing the time it takes to access certain information.

Development of GIS in Auburn has also resulted in departmental efficiencies. GIS has improved customer service by reducing the amount of time it takes for staff to develop plans, notify abutters, process permits, perform analyses, and manage the City’s resources.

Technology Implemented

Several applications are used to develop and maintain spatial and tabular data including: MS Access, Autodesk’s AutoCAD, MS SQL Server, ArcInfo, ArcGIS, ArcIMS, and ArcView.
