Project Goal
EDAW’s information technology services focus on the synthesis of GIS, 3D Visualization, database and web development capabilities. Our approach provides comprehensive and integrated results that facilitate the interpretation of abundant and varied data. Our range of solutions filter complex and diverse data into clear, concise and effective visualizations for collaborative design, public involvement and project implementation and management.
EDAW develops GIS solutions around project needs. The solution could range from a simple map communicating the best areas to locate a new residential community to the delivery of a stand-alone application tracking the gain and loss of habitat within a region.
We integrate information technology with economic and physical planning, design, landscape architecture, environmental management and biological science. We use GIS as a suite of powerful, comprehensive tools for the participatory design and community decision-making processes EDAW supports.

GIS technology allows EDAW to manage the complexity of information needed on projects such as these. Our GIS professionals are highly skilled in taking this information and consolidating it into useful knowledge. This knowledge is presented in the form of maps, models, reports and graphics generated from GIS and supporting technologies.
These solutions can result in the delivery of robust applications that allow our clients to manage, track, forecast and learn more about the complex issues they are challenged with. GIS technology is an integral part of the solution in these applications. However, it is how the user interacts and derives value from the applications and data that is important to EDAW.
Technology Implemented
EDAW utilizes the full range of ESRI software in delivering solutions. ArcGIS 9 is our standard desktop deployment with model builder, Spatial Analyst and 3D Analyst being widely used.
Server side products such as ArcSDE and ArcIMS 9 are utilized and customized from a centralized data center.
Microsoft Visual Studio .NET is used to customize ArcGIS, ArcIMS as well as for delivering stand-alone web or desktop applications.

EDAW’s GIS community is comprised of professionals from around the world. This community has grown to represent almost all 27 EDAW offices spread across the United States, Asia, Australia and Europe.
