Business Problem Solved

The use of maps and map-based data is an inherent part of the running local government. Emergency services, property assessment, planning, engineering, and election processes all rely heavily on current and reliable mapping. Rapid growth of the Denver metropolitan area during the 1990s made it impossible to deliver real time map based information to Adams County staff and the public. Even with updated CAD software and a newly implemented LAN/WAN, County development was difficult to track with the existing business processes and information management practices.

In order to address these issues, Adams County began developing its GIS capabilities in the mid-1990s. The vision was to have a system of geographic data that can interrelate various systems and information resources in one-stop software architecture. Today, this vision is a reality using the latest in ESRI’s GIS technology.

Technology Implemented

Adams County uses ArcSDE/Oracle and ArcGIS to manage it spatial data resources. Customizations of ArcView and ArcIMS are used to integrated GIS with existing support systems (e.g. Appraisal, Voter Registration, and Permit Management) and deliver GIS to both technical and non-technical system users. Adams County GIS Web Services Application is built with ArcIMS and can be assessed over the internet.
