Allen County, IN
Project Goal
The iMap Board, Allen County’s GIS advisory board, has recognized for many years the powerful analytic tools that a geographic information system brings to a community. Because of this, the iMap Board has had two goals for our GIS program. The first is to provide to the County, cities within the County, and the public a highly accurate, up to date, base map that could be used as a tool to help people to make better, more informed decisions in pursuit of their goals. The second goal is to provide GIS to anyone, anywhere, on any device, at anytime. All our efforts to this point and moving forward are in support of these two primary goals.
Business Problem Solved
The iMap division, Allen County’s GIS team, has achieved the iMap Board’s goals. Using ArcGIS a highly accurate, up-to-date base map of the County is now available to department heads and staff on any device, anytime, anywhere they are. The next step over the next two years will be to continue to develop the staff’s GIS skills so that they can apply the technology to more and more of their operation’s workflow. Our goal now is that every department will have at least one staff person who is skilled in the use of GIS so they can support their department’s needs.
