Business Problem Solved
The Town of Groton was interested in updating its GIS system to enable the information and data to be easily shared between town departments and also to provide public access to the information over the Internet.
Working with the GIS Executive Committee the GIS Staff received approval to provide town-wide access to the GIS information using ArcIMS technology. Five ArcIMS viewers have been developed to provide a user friendly interface to access to commonly requested information. The applications provide the users with the ability to easily retrieve Property Ownership Information, Buffer/Owner Lists, Utility Information, GIS Data Layers and Tax Maps.
Additionally, an application was developed by the GIS staff to provide access to the maps on file in the Town Clerks office. Providing access to the GIS data over the Internet has dramatically increased the use of the Town’s GIS data both internally and also by the public.
