Project Goal

The GIS Department’s goal is to present our GIS data to the decision makers in a format that is easy to understand and use, and allow the users to do limited analysis and print out their results. Ultimately, the desire would be to reduce the foot traffic in both the GIS department and the associated Plat Room.

Business Problem Solved

Up until two and a half years ago, the GIS department had accumulated a lot of parcel, road and addressing information to form a good solid county base map. Additionally, the department was maintaining all of the political and regulated use boundaries and had access to numerous other data sets encompassing information in a lot of areas. However, the information was not in a state that was readily accessible by decision makers. Attempts had been made to train departmental personnel on ArcGIS software, but due to time constraints, varying abilities and aptitudes, this has met with only limited success. The users wanted the data immediately in an easy to use format.

Technology Implemented

Thus, we performed a comprehensive data needs analysis for the users of our data and implemented a combined ArcSDE / ArcIMS solution that presents the information required by the decision makers in an easy to understand format.
