Business Problem Solved

Replaced a client/server based system, which was labor intensive to maitain and update. The application linked several databases including the criminal history records system, mugshot, and GIS. The development has streamlined maintainance and development.

Technology Implemented

The GIS group maintains various systems to support the department’s need for map related products. The department is using ArcGIS 9.1. The data in stored in an Oracle 10g SDE environment. The GIS group uses both Sun Unix and Dell Linux platforms for both SDE and IMS. The front end pages used to query the data warehouse are written in ASP.

Development Team Biography

Joe Kezon is the GIS Manager for the Chicago Police Department. His responsibilities include overseeing the day to day GIS operations for the department and managing the GIS group. Joe is also responsible for the data integrity of the department GIS data that is maintained in the ArcSDE database. Joe has worked in the GIS profession for over twenty years, and has been involved in every aspect of GIS and related industries. He has worked for NGA, Cook County and for the last ten years the City of Chicago. He’s a graduate of Illinois State University with a B.S. in Geography.

Scot Hamilton is the GIS Developer for the Chicago Police Department. His responsibilities include developing customized ArcIMS websites showing crime and arrest information and maintaining the CPD ArcSDE database. Scot’s worked in the GIS profession in Illinois doing everything from data capture and analysis to needs assessments and application development. He’s worked in McHenry County, Highland Park and for the last six years the City of Chicago. He’s a graduate of Northern Illinois University with a B.S. and M.S. in Geography.
