Florida Department of HealthView Photo(s) of Award Presentation Project Goal
The project goal of the Community Health Assessment Resource Tool Set (CHARTS) is to develop an internet site where the general public, local health planners, researchers, and others can easily access health indicator data at the community and statewide level for the State of Florida. The thrust of this effort is to provide Florida communities with one site where users can access data pertinent to the health status of their community. Local health planners in Florida are constantly looking for data to support grants to provide health intervention measures to improve the health and safety of their local community residents. In the past these local health planners contacted the state Department of Health staff who would spend many hours researching and putting together data products for these local area planners. With the implementation of CHARTS, local area health planners can not only get the data in one place but can view health related maps of their area to localize intervention measures. Technology Implemented
The CHARTS web site is built on ESRI, Microsoft and SQL Database technology. A customized version of the ArcIMS HTML viewer is the basis of the GIS component. Geo-spatial and tabular data are stored in ArcSDE as well as an SQL relational database. VB.Net is used for the county GIS display and JavaScript is used to customize the sub-county HTML viewer.
