Project Goal

The goal was to create an integrated approach for maintaining and distributing geographic information. In order to accomplish this, a reliable toolset was created that would foster an environment where employees could research information regarding all aspects of County business without having to possess high level GIS skills. The toolset would serve multiple departments and be tied to various applications internally, and would be made available to for public use.

Business Problem Solved

This project helped to solve several business problems relating to time and resource allocation. The first benefit from the project was the reduction in the number of calls to various departments for common geo-centric questions. There was also a significant reduction in the number of request for basic mapping, analysis and reporting. There was also a reduction in the request for geo-spatial data due to its availability to be downloaded. This, in turn, caused a reduction in research time by County staff and increased customer service to the public. The project allowed for GIS integration with multiple external databases that satisfied a need for the most current data available.
