Project Goal

The objective of the project is the implementation of the corporative core geographic information of Sedapal (water utilities, Lima City – Peru), which will be integrated with the other such corporative system of information as the commercial (customer) management System called “Open-SGC”, Administrative System, (SAP R/3), SCADA, etc. with communication services, structure that it will allow to free the logic of the systems, of the evolution process and improvement of this core. At the moment, It has been possible consolidate the structure of the core regarding the information of commercial type (user’s cadastre, properties and water connections).

Business Problem Solved

The operative administration of Sedapal is intimately related whit the geographical distribution of its infrastructure of water and sewer networks (have operate basically for gravity), as well as the location of the properties of its clients (current and future).

Before the application of GIS technology in Sedapal, the analysis resources based on physical maps and alphanumerical references of addresses and bench marks, besides demanding important resources of hours man and offered results of limited accuracy.

The progressive implementation, about 8 years ago, of a system of commercial Cadastre Geographic allowed to take very concrete steps in the exploitation of the GIS technology, enabling news tools for the programming of field inspections by means of the analysis of routes and good times, elaboration of thematic maps for billing and debt, analysis of low consumptions, green areas and properties with pools, among others.

At the moment, Sedapal also uses the technology GIS in the studies of planning and it demands of new services, and the identification of new sources of water, activities that before they demanded a lot of time or they were not simply executed, for not having the appropriate resources.

Technology Implemented

Our solution is development with software GIS ESRI, how ArCSDE, ArcGIS (ArcInfo, ArcView). The date base is ORACLE. For the Satellite Image Management, we use ERDAS Professional. About the formats and standards, we use the formats and standards of ESRI. So we have with GPS differential TRIMBLE.

Development Team Biography

Ismael Ayala Falcón is Electric Engineer, expertise in systems. He is Informatics Boss, responsible of the information technologist management in Sedapal.

Enrique Cadenas Acosta is Geographer Engineer, expertise in Geographic Information System. He is responsible of GIS Corporative Project in Sedapal. He has a degree in management of Geographic Information System in Spain and The Netherlands.

Oswaldo Sucasaca Ruelas is Geographer Engineer, expertise in Digital Cartography with CAD and GIS.

Martín Gonzáles Soto is Geographer Engineer, expertise in GPS and Satellite Images of great resolution.
