Project Goal

Effingham County's goal is to create an enterprise GIS capable of supporting all data needs of each department. The goal is to put editing capabilities in the hands of each department so that ownership and increased workflow enhance citizen involvement in the local government. By implementing a shared open information consortium that is integrated across many different platforms, local governments, municipalities, non-profit and educational institutions will receive the full benefit of GIS.

Business Problem Solved

Our business problem was to create base layers with needed information and to distribute data across a unique domain so we had to cross barriers that have never been crossed. By making this data available to all departments within the county, departmental constraints were eased and cooperation was improved. Everyone can now see maps and information about the county on the web. Fewer calls from the public, fewer inquiries about data, fewer map prints, and quicker response for services and information was achieved by implementing a GIS.
