City of Pocatello - EngineeringView Photo(s) of Award Presentation Project Goal
Our main goal is to create, and maintain an enterprise-wide collection of Geo-Databases that provides the maximum efficiency for the City of Pocatello public works departments. Having accurate and available spatial data that tie into our Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS) is one of the reasons that we have been able to compete with other communities for commercial development as well as meet our many reporting requirements. Accurate, legible and the retrieval of infrastructure records can be very complex and time consuming, as well as difficult to make available to a public works departments that are not necessarily located where the records are being maintained. We have found that the combining our CMMS and GIS has resulted in the best possible way of managing our infrastructure. Technology Implemented
We have utilized a CMMS to manage our Water, Sewer, Storm Water, Street, Fleet and inventory that resides on a server in SQL. The GIS Server is also a SQL database running ARC/SDE 9.1. The web application is on a server that runs ARC/IMS. We have a unique way of maintaining our ARC/SDE infrastructures database that utilizes a custom application that resides in a CAD application, thus allowing the engineering staff to maintain the records with out having to learn a new set of computer skills.
