Abstract Thiess - Appetite for Construction Track: Implementing Survey Data in GIS Author(s): Jason Clark Established in 1933, Thiess has grown to become one of the largest construction, mining and services providers in Australia, South East Asia and the near Pacific. Thiess currently have $8.3 billion of work in-hand under way across the Company in the Building, Civil, Mining, Process, Environmental services, Utilities services, and Facilities operations and maintenance sectors. Recently, Thiess have realized that virtually every aspect of its work is related to geography. It is developing GIS applications that support its core activities across all sectors in emergency response and safety, property and land management, environmental protection, community services, asset management, planning and engineering and transportation and logistics. This paper will discuss the Thiess system implementation rationale, deployment and development issues, and the benefits of the Thiess GIS system. In addition, we will present and discuss the benefits to business processes that may occur as a result of deploying a GIS.
