GIS for drinking water source protection: risk analysis and management
Track: Implementing Survey Data in GIS
Author(s): Daniel Mongelard

Drinking water source protection requires a risk analysis of the multiple hazards located in the watershed. A GIS tool based on HACCP and multiple barriers approaches was developed to integrate and manage the different types of water quality risks: microbiological, chemical, turbidity, algal toxins and hydrological. A flow network is build to integrates the river (or lake), the sewage network, the chemical industries, the farms... Using this information, the GIS tool locates critical control points by using vulnerability indexes.
