Park City Environmental Data Viewer
Track: Engineering Design and Construction
Author(s): Jeff Schoenbacher

Park City was once known as one of America's greatest silver mining towns that had an active mining district from 1863 to 1982. As a result, during many years of active mining, the district produced millions of ounces of silver as well as a substantial amount of mine tailing waste that has resulted in many environmental challenges that are still being remediated today. To assist in managing these risks while also educating the public on the City's unique environment; the Building Department created an innovative "Park City Environmental Data Viewer" (http://mapserv.utah.gov/ParkCityGIS).

The Environmental Data Viewer has been a great success in several areas in regards to outreach to the numerous stakeholders. Stakeholders and Park City Department's are now also able to conduct internal research as it relates to identifying jurisdictional wetlands and streams, lead concentrations, and the application receives over 576 service requests per day.
