Project Goal
Insurance companies need to know about the flood risk of real estate to provide adequate insurance solutions for the customers. Beginning summer 2001, GDV provided more than 170 insurance companies with at least 15.000 users with the ArcGIS based ZÜRS Software. ZÜRS enabled insurance companies to classify the flood risk of real estate all over Germany.Business Problem Solved
The new GIS-solution ZÜRS Geo Online is the basis for insurance solutions, which would be hard to provide or calculate without detailed geo-information. For example, ZÜRS Geo Online is pooling and unifying the most different data, which the 16 federal states of Germany are providing to the public. Furthermore the online platform now provides beside flood risk geo-information for environmental risk assessment in the insurance industry (e.g. biodiversity, nature reserves, water protection areas).
Technology Implemented
The new ZÜRS Geo Online is based on ArcGIS Server. It is hosted by the computing centre of the GDV and integrated in the German Insurance Intranet (VIS). ZÜRS Geo Online was fully operational with the first three modules (environmental liability, flood risk and basic risk assessment), in March 2008.

ZÜRS Geo Online is the result of many hours of brainstorming, development and testing. Hundreds of people within the insurance business and the German Insurance Association were involved in this process. We would like to thank all participants, who made this project possible.
