San Diego, California—The Tallahassee-Leon County GIS Consortium in Florida has demonstrated vision and leadership, using ESRI's geographic information system (GIS) technology to better serve the world. To recognize this passionate approach to applying GIS solutions, ESRI will present the organization with the Special Achievement in GIS (SAG) Award on August 6, 2008, at the 28th Annual ESRI International User Conference (ESRI UC) in San Diego, California.
The Tallahassee-Leon County GIS (TLCGIS) is the GIS consortium for Leon County and the City of Tallahassee. The group provides public, business, and government access to numerous Web sites, including mapping, locator, natural feature, weather, and election sites, and personal customer service for map and data inquiries. The real estate and development community uses the TLCGIS sites for their businesses, and property owners are able to learn everything geographic about their location, from flood and special economic zones to responding fire and police stations and nearby parks and facilities. These public data access tools are just a few of the ways the TLCGIS uses GIS to continue to share resources, reduce redundancy of data collection and creation, encourage solutions, enhance decision making, and benefit citizens and organizations.
