Project Goal

Balboa Insurance Group (Balboa) developed a unique Internet tool for its Financial Institution clients providing geographic monitoring capabilities when a force of nature like a hurricane, flood or tornado strikes a concentrated area or population and impacts properties in their portfolio. Catastrophe Manager Web site is a comprehensive resource giving close to real-time reports to Balboa and its lender clients, often with specific ZIP code information, to make it as easy and detailed as possible. In addition to providing reports during a catastrophic event, the Web site provides Balboa’s industry best CAT Modeling team with a tool that analyzes exposure of a clients’ loan portfolio prior to an event as well as generating analysis for hypothetical situations.

Business Problem Solved

There is no predicting when or where a force of nature will strike an area. But when they do, lenders need to act immediately to assess the damages to their investments and help their borrowers begin to recover and rebuild. By giving our clients the tools of Catastrophe Manager, Balboa Insurance Group is able to offer clients a valuable solution to a critical problem; being able to assess their exposure and be as proactive as possible. By providing catastrophe information as well as assessing the possible impact to each individual loan included in the portfolio, Balboa offered a valuable solution to a crucial problem: being aware of additional risks, with as much warning as possible. The Web site also provided archived data so clients could use previous catastrophe information as an indication of the possible effect those past catastrophes would have to current portfolios.
