Project Goal
NCGE sponsored two projects using GIS:
1. Exploring the United States: A Bird’s Eye View is a CD aimed at 4-6 grade students, offering age-appropriate experience with remote sensing and GIS as students learn U.S. Geography. The development of teacher and student materials promotes the interpretation of satellite images and map overlays to explore physical environments and settlement patterns. The project was supported by a grant from NASA and contributions from ESRI.
2. Integrated Geospatial Education and Technology Training (iGETT) was funded by NSF and supports community college GIS instruction for the growing workforce need for GIS technicians. The project focused on both the training of GIS instructors through a two-year effort and the development of a website hosting training materials and curriculum modules for other community college GIS instructors.
