Sofiyska Voda, Part of Veolia

Project Goal

IT solutions supporting Sofiyska voda’s management of the water and sewerage systems are being deprecated. We need to implement modern solutions that will enable us to continue providing the best service and care for our customers as the organization strives to always follow top standards for our IT systems.
ArcGIS Desktop is in mature support and will be retired with no plans for future releases. MS Silverlight that has been used is a deprecated application framework similar to Adobe Flash and Adobe which no longer support Flash Player. Users are strongly encouraged to move to a modern browsers.
A migration to ArcGIS Pro is a long-term feasible option to address these challenges, but Sofiyska voda uses the geometric network which isn’t supported in ArcGIS Pro. The best solution to update legacy workflows was to implement Esri’s Utility Network and thus to set the ground for meeting future needs of a modern network management.

Business Problem Solved

Sofiyska voda, launched a pilot project for using Esri’s ArcGIS Utility Network with the existing water and sewer GIS data. Esri Bulgaria provided a report that assessed the current situation and pinpointed steps towards full scale Utility Network implementation.
Sofiyska voda decided that a full implementation of the Utility Network and an upgrade to our GIS system was the right solution to meet our needs.
The integration of the Utility Network with Sofiyska voda’s GIS system was planned in two stages:
Stage 1 - Upgrade the existing GIS by implementing and adapting the ArcGIS Utility Network, data migration and upgrading the system architecture while maintaining existing functionality.
Stage 2 - System expansion and upgrade of the existing GIS with new functionality, full scope implementation of mobile ArcGIS apps, and integration with other IT systems – Customer Care and Billing, Enterprise Resource Planning, Computerized Maintenance Management System and Asset Management.
