Project Goal
Texas faces multifaceted public health challenges, which demand research and collaboration between a wide range of divisions within the TX Dept. of State Health Services and external stakeholders. Previously, this proved difficult due to access limitations and lack of a centralized platform, but the Analytics Group in Regional and Local Health Operations leveraged ArcGIS Hub to create a Centralized Analytics and Mapping Portal (CAMP). Using ArcGIS Insights, ArcGIS Dashboards, and Experience Builder, our team consolidated a wide variety of data sources related to public health data and social determinates of health with the objective to make visualizations, data exploration, and reports easily accessible to individual public health stakeholders at several geographic levels. Additionally, GIS powers live visualizations for emergency preparedness and response to track deployed resources, personnel, and operational data for the State Medical Operations Center.Business Problem Solved
The Central Analytics & Mapping Portal ArcGIS Hub was created to be a centralized platform where the TX Department of State Health Services (DSHS), local health entities, and other external stakeholders access several DSHS data products displaying statewide health operations.
Previously, it was difficult to share data visualizations with leadership and stakeholders due to account provisioning limitations and a desire for a singular platform for ease of access. By segmenting the Hub using ArcGIS Online groups and ArcGIS Hub community accounts, we offer a single, secure location to host data analytics and visualizations that encourage users to view public health data in a geographic context to inform decision making.

Development Team Biography
Macey Lively works as GIS specialist at the Texas Department of State Health Services. She graduated from Texas A&M University with Master of Public Health and Master of International Affairs degrees and a Vector Biology and Vector-Borne Disease Response in Human and Animal Systems Certificate. During this time, she co-authored the book Poverty and Neglected Tropical Diseases in the American Rural South (2020).
Kristen Sanchez is a GIS Specialist at the Texas Department of State Health Services. She earned her Master of Public Health from Texas A&M University and has over 8 years of research and data analysis experience. In her current role, Kristen leverages GIS technology and its intersection with public health to empower stakeholders to support a healthy Texas. Beyond work, Kristen enjoys reading and traveling; she is currently reading Remarkably Bright Creatures and will visit Ireland this year.
