Project Goal
The City of Fayetteville has established their GIS department as a true geo-spatial delivery platform integrating location into departmental workflows across the city. The IT Department has adopted the GIS Office’s philosophy that “GIS is the API”. All the enterprise systems in the City pull and validate address data and/or its unique identifier from GIS to store in each system. In this manner the GIS Office is able to tie enterprise systems together and expose data relationships that were not visible before. We have developed and deployed spatially aware apps to support open government, economic development, smart growth, and illustrating local government activities, permits, facilities and services. Additionally, we have used the derivative datasets to support planning goals and provided "My Fayetteville Services" to create modernized interactive experiences for citizens to find government related services and resources such as parks, trails, and historic sites.Business Problem Solved
The GIS Office works with every Department and Division in the City. There is not just a problem that we have solved, there are countless. I have to give a nod to the previous GIS Managers of the City, who laid the educational groundwork that has led to our current success. We get to be part of the solution and solve real problems.
