Project Goal
Region VII, with the resources available through an Enterprise Agreement with Esri, is focused on assisting the entities within our service area with growing and expanding the use of GIS. With a concentrated effort to help organizations within our seven-county region build a system of record and retain institutional knowledge of their utility assets, we have worked on building a GIS system for data collection, management, and visualizations. We work closely with each entity to identify their needs and integrate GIS with their current processes.Business Problem Solved
In designing a utility asset management system through GIS, Region VII is providing the ability of each participating organization to have an up to date and easily accessible data set of their resources. Working with each organization to collect, convert and attribute their systems ensures the most important data is documented. Implementing a utility asset management system in GIS also allows expanding the functionality to include transitioning from paper inspection forms to digital forms that reduce the chance of errors from data entry processes. Creating a comprehensive GIS containing the utility systems within our region also allows Region VII to direct project efforts to those areas where utility services may be unserved.
Implementing GIS internally has allowed Region VII to save time when compiling monthly/yearly reports for project administration requirements by allowing easy access to summary data through ArcGIS Dashboards or ArcGIS Pro Reports functionality.
