Project Goal
The North Carolina Department of Transportation faced a challenging period during its response to Hurricane Helene. With the support of the NC Dept. of Information Technology NCDOT utilized a wide array of Esri tools to provide timely and accurate data for rapid decision making. Many of the tools utilized during the storm provided data that saved lives while other products continue to support the recover effort.Business Problem Solved
Hurricane Helene proved to be a complex event with a variety of issues – some anticipated proactively and many on-the-fly configurations for new problems that could not be anticipated. Some examples of problems that were tackled includes capturing damage occurrences accurately, providing imagery from NCDOT Photogrammetry in a timely manner, routing of first responders into damaged areas and communicating road closures to the public. NCDOT provided coordination between over 40 agencies to provide access to data and scaling of resources to ensure availability.
