Project Goal
The Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services (FDACS) exemplifies innovation and leadership by leveraging the Esri suite to modernize outdated and unsupported software. FDACS enhances efficiency and productivity across all user levels, streamlining field data collection for site inspections, enabling data-driven decision-making during emergency response efforts, and crafting compelling visual displays to foster public awareness. By integrating the power of geographic intelligence into its daily operations, FDACS exemplifies how technology drives meaningful change and inspires confidence in modern solutions.Business Problem Solved
As part of a broader effort to transition FDACS from paper-based workflows, divisions have adopted digital solutions that enhance customer interactions, eliminate redundant tasks, and enable leaders to effectively allocate resources statewide. The Office of Agriculture Water Policy and Florida Forest Service adopted spatial workflows for their Best Management Practice programs, aligning field data collection, improving data analysis and sharing capabilities. The Division of Plant Industry transformed multiple field inspection forms to include integrations with the Microsoft Power Platform, while Agricultural Environmental Services conduct post-hurricane vulnerability assessments to predict which counties may need assistance from their Mosquito Control Incident Response Team. Users embrace Story Maps and Experience Builder apps for public reporting and awareness, like the Rural and Family Lands Protection Program highlighting the protection of critical agricultural lands in the state.
Technology Implemented
ArcGIS Pro, ArcGIS Online and ArcGIS Enterprise make up the FDACS Esri suite. Within ArcGIS Online and Enterprise, users interact with Survey123, Dashboards, Experience Builders, and Field Maps for site inspections and reporting daily. A recent addition to our Esri stack is Workflow Manager Server, brought on by the modernization of the Department’s Best Management Practice workflows. Story Maps open to the public are a consistent way to provide transparency and awareness of the work conducted by FDACS.
