Project Goal
The MSCFV GIS Hub was created to support domestic violence (DV) service providers by offering a centralized, interactive mapping platform. It helps staff better understand their communities by visualizing the distribution of resources and provides them with the tools to connect clients to nearby services based on location. In rural areas like Maryland’s Eastern Shore, understanding a community’s landscape — from access to schools and employment opportunities to the proximity of essential resources — is invaluable. The Hub’s goal is to make this understanding a constant across Maryland and soon in other states as well, improving resource accessibility and coordination for providers who rely on this information daily.Business Problem Solved
Domestic violence (DV) service providers often struggle to quickly locate and access available resources for their clients, especially in rural and underserved areas. Manual searches are time-consuming and inefficient, particularly during direct client interactions. The MSCFV GIS Hub addresses this by centralizing resource, housing, and employment data into a dynamic map interface, allowing providers to visualize resource distribution, identify gaps, and make data-driven decisions to better serve survivors in their communities.
Technology Implemented
- ArcGIS Online: Our main foundation for building applications and hosting our site.
- ArcGIS Community Organization: The user-facing component that allows us to host our site and onboard new users.
- ArcGIS Dashboard, Experience Builder, and Web App Builder: Used to create and customize applications for various user needs.
- ArcGIS Pro: Utilized for staging and cleaning data before overwriting it in ArcGIS Online.
- ArcGIS Survey123: Employed for collecting user feedback and gathering valuable insights.
