Project Goal

Stream’s vision is to unlock the potential of water data to benefit customers, society, and the environment.

Stream comprises of 16 out of 18 major water companies in the UK, representing the majority of UK water customers. We've developed a scalable open data framework enabling innovators to use data to address key water sector challenges, such as:
Preventing environmental incidents;
Reducing absolute carbon emissions associated with water extraction, use, and treatment;
Bringing down the cost of water, particularly for the most vulnerable customers;
Catalysing innovation and new ways of working across the sector; and
Enabling our people to do more exciting, meaningful work

Business Problem Solved

Stream is a collaboration between 16 major UK water companies, supported by seven specialist partners and four sector regulators. Stream’s vision is to unlock the potential of water data to the benefit of customers, society and the environment.
To do this we have created sustainable data sharing infrastructure for water, comprising four key components: community, data, process and technology. By creating a clear framework for sharing data in a consistent and efficient way, Stream is removing the barriers that have historically prevented water company data from being more systematically used to generate value.

National Storm Overflow Hub. Showing near real-time discharge data for all the storm overflows in England in one interactive map for the first time in the world. Nine separate API feeds into a single map with standard schemas and open licenses with support for Esri or open APIs (via ArcGIS Notebook).
