Project Goal
As a construction consulting firm involved in social infrastructure development, Docon Co., Ltd. aims to streamline and enhance planning and design operations by promoting the widespread use and application of GIS across the company, striving to make it a tool that anyone can easily utilize. Previously, GIS required specialized knowledge, but through environmental improvements and in-house training since the early 2000s, they have changed it into a tool that all employees can use easily in their work. In recent years, there has been an increase in cases where GIS is used not only for data visualization but also for advanced analysis. In 2021, they achieved centralized data management and cross-departmental data sharing, establishing their GIS platform “DoconGIS”. They will continue their efforts to further accelerate their DX in their planning and design projects, including the use of GIS in field survey work and strengthening collaboration with BIM.Business Problem Solved
Through their ongoing efforts in GIS, they have created an environment capable of addressing challenges such as data sharing, enhancing internal GIS skills, and advanced GIS utilization. Regarding data sharing, previously, each department managed its GIS data separately, so it was difficult to share. However, with the establishment of the GIS platform, “DoconGIS," they achieved centralized data management and cross-departmental collaboration. Additionally, GIS requires specialized knowledge and a few employees were able to use it, but through internal training aimed at making "GIS that everyone can easily master," they increased the number of users capable of utilizing GIS and enabled company-wide utilization. Furthermore, thanks to their ongoing environmental improvements and initiatives, they have been able to promote operations using advanced GIS applications within the company, such as mobile GIS and BIM collaboration.

Development Team Biography
The full-scale introduction of GIS software at Docon Co., Ltd. began around 1997. To accumulate and share GIS knowledge and skill across the company, a "GIS Team" was organized within the Engineering & Information Dept. The team has continuously worked towards goals such as "GIS data preparation," "enhancing GIS knowledge and skill," and "supporting GIS use in planning and design projects."
In 2009, ArcGIS was established as the standard software for the company, resulting in more efficient license management and the beginning of employee-specific GIS training sessions.
Recently, the team has been rebranded as the "GIS Support Team" with new members. Since the introduction of EA in 2017 and the development of the internal GIS platform in 2021, they have been striving to further improve the GIS usage environment. Moreover, they continue to advance GIS use among internal users and boost business efficiency.
