Project Goal

A company like SBB relies heavily on geoinformation and maps across various business areas. The GIS platform G-SHARP (short for Geodata Shared Platform) serves as the geodata infrastructure for all corporate sectors and as a foundation for application development. The project aimed to transform the geodata infrastructure into a modern, stable, efficient, and easily manageable architecture in the public cloud. The platform is fully integrated into SBB's enterprise IT, compliant with all regulations, and prioritizes cybersecurity requirements. By utilizing Esri's standard architecture patterns and SBB's development stacks, a balance between flexibility, short-term adaptability, and long-term operational stability is achieved.

Business Problem Solved

With increasing demands for stability, resilience, and security on SBB's IT platforms, it's essential for the geodata infrastructure to seamlessly integrate. Users of the platform, the Geoportal, and internal GIS services rely on IT platforms to meet today's expectations for efficiency, data protection, and stability. They must also be prepared for rapid scaling, functionality enhancements, and resistance to cyber-attacks. To meet these requirements, the project was implemented. GIS users can be confident that they are working with state-of-the-art IT infrastructure when handling geodata and maps.
