Barbados National Energy Company Limited (BNECL)

Project Goal

1. Move spatial records from an analogue state to a digital state where records can be represented graphically and sourced from a centralized database.
2. Better understand the makeup (materials, sizes, pressures, etc.) of both commodity networks, the Oil and Gas Gathering Network and the Natural Gas Supply Network.
3. Provide company-wide data access to members of staff and external contractors who need spatial data to efficiently and effectively execute their daily roles or projects at BNECL, respectively.
4. Establish a mobile solution at BNECL that works to seamlessly connect work orders with work execution.
5. Develop revenue-generating GIS services that work to subsidise GIS operational costs at BNECL.
6. Ultimately, improve informed decision-making in the energy sector in Barbados.

Business Problem Solved

The NPC management team made clear that efficient access to drawing records to inform work orders effectively was a major challenge. This pointed to issues in spatial data collection, the flow and processing of collected field data, and lastly, the presentation and access to resulting maps and information that not only controlled the efficiency of job completions but also customer satisfaction.
