Project Goal

The goal of this GIS project was to model Egypt’s national gas distribution network using the ArcGIS Utility Network to support a national mission of energy modernization and social equity. This can represent a digital framework for decision making support regarding the extension of the natural gas networks to households.

Business Problem Solved

EGAS needed to transition from using GIS as a simple mapping tool to an advanced engine for national development. The project addressed the challenge of managing a massive gas distribution network by creating a unified system of record across all of Egypt. This allows decision makers to identify high-density, low-income pockets for future expansion planning. This is in addition to supporting the operational resilience and safety through precise isolation tracing in high-occupancy residential areas.

Company Overview

The Egyptian Natural Gas Holding Company (EGAS) is an Egyptian organization established to oversee and manage all activities related to Egypt’s natural gas industry. These activities span the full value chain, from agreements, drilling, exploration, production development, as well as processing, transportation, distribution in domestic market, and liquefaction of natural gas, in addition to managing related facilities and infrastructure.
