Project Goal
The main objective of Transelec’s geospatial strategy project is to strengthen the management of its transmission assets, which are considered critical infrastructure for the country. The solution enables a rapid and traceable response to events such as wildfires, earthquakes, and floods, as well as to ongoing maintenance and grid operation activities. ArcGIS has become the main platform in the digitalization of operations and maintenance. The strategy evolved from supporting climate-related disasters to developing critical capabilities, accelerating field workflows and new analytical capabilities for territorial management and risk assessment. It incorporates high-resolution imagery and LiDAR to improve the management of vegetation, rights of way, and the environment surrounding our assets. It contributes to operational resilience and timely techno-economic decision-making, supporting operational continuity and quality of service.Business Problem Solved
1. Capture and trace asset data, monitor the geolocated work of contractors during inspection and maintenance tasks.
2. Improve efficiency in crew assignment before events and/or failures.
3. Early identification of risks by using and combining various external data sources (e.g., winds, fires, weather events, etc.) and internal sources (SAP, inventory, sensors, etc.).
4. Efficient management of vegetation and right-of-way encroachments.
