Riverbend Energy Group

Project Goal

Riverbend Energy Group's GIS program has evolved from a collection of legacy applications into a mature, enterprise-wide platform relied upon daily across the organization. Our primary goal was modernizing that foundation — transitioning from an outdated, siloed environment to a fully federated ArcGIS Enterprise deployment built on a scalable, multi-machine architecture that now powers everything we do.

Business Problem Solved

Before modernizing our GIS platform, Riverbend faced challenges that are common in fast-growing organizations — but no less painful. Critical spatial data lived in silos, accessible only to a handful of people and rarely making it into the hands of those who needed it most. Manual workflows consumed valuable time that could have been spent on analysis and insight. Decision makers lacked the spatial context needed to fully evaluate investments and opportunities in the field. And underneath it all, aging legacy systems created reliability concerns that put the integrity of our data and operations at risk.

Our GIS modernization effort solved all of that. We replaced fragmentation with a unified, enterprise-wide platform that puts the right data in front of the right people — at the right time.

Technology Implemented

Riverbend's solution is built on a robust, fully federated ArcGIS Enterprise deployment — purpose-built for reliability, scalability, and enterprise-wide access. Our infrastructure includes a clustered ArcGIS Server environment, ArcGIS Portal, ArcGIS Data Store, and dual Web Adaptors ensuring high availability across the organization.

Underpinning the platform is a modern technology engine combining Microsoft SQL Server spatial databases, Python automation and scripting, and AI models that bring intelligence to our workflows. Our front-end experience leverages Node.js, TypeScript, and React — deployed through ArcGIS Experience Builder — delivering polished, intuitive applications directly inside Portal.

The result is a suite of enterprise web applications that serve every corner of the business — from company-wide spatial intelligence to supporting our Land team's acquisition efforts and providing real-time asset and basin-level dashboards for decision makers.

Return on Investment

At Riverbend, GIS is not a support function — it is a strategic asset. Leadership recognized early that a modern, enterprise-grade GIS platform was not an expense, but an investment in the organization's ability to make smarter, faster, and more responsible decisions.

That investment has paid dividends across the business. From evaluation to execution, our GIS platform is embedded in how Riverbend operates — trusted by decision makers at every level to provide the spatial intelligence that drives our work. Cross-functional collaboration that once required days of back-and-forth now happens in real time, with everyone working from the same authoritative data.

In an industry where the margin between a good investment and a great one can come down to the quality of your data and the speed of your insight, Riverbend's GIS platform has been a defining competitive advantage. It is one of the reasons we have been as successful as we have.
