Project Goal

The project objective was to develop a spatially accurate and current dataset of underground telecommunications infrastructure capable of storing details about duct condition, utilization and availability and last mile fibre connections.

This innovative use case was used to support the survey, design and construction of a resilient underground fibre optic network for the Government of Dominica (GoCD) and installation of a fibre optic connections to over 1000 government buildings in Grenada, St Vincent & The Grenadines and St Lucia under the Caribbean Regional Communications Infrastructure Programme (CARCIP)

Business Problem Solved

The Group GIS Team at Digcel Group developed a spatial solution that addressed the challenge of managing underground assets, adding a spatial component to duct sharing agreement and giving visibility to physical underground infrastructure available for access across selected markets in the Caribbean region.

Technology Implemented

The team used a suite of ArcGIS Apps including: ArcGIS Online, ArcGIS Survey123, Collector for ArcGIS and ArcGIS Pro.

Development Team Biography

Tarik Dixon is a geospatial professional and Commonwealth Scholar (2013), who has held key technical and managerial positions within the Digicel Group, JN Group, Office of the Prime Minister and several other government
Ministries, Departments and Agencies.

He holds a MSc in Spatial Planning (specialism in
Sustainable Urban Development) from the University College London (UCL) and a BSc. in Urban
and Regional Planning from the University of Technology, Jamaica (UTech).

Mr Dixon is a certified GIS Professional (GISP) and a Top Producing Realtor at Century 21 Heave-Ho Properties, whose educational achievements in Urban Planning has been ably complemented by approximately fifteen (15) years combined professional experience in GIS, real estate, telecommunications and planning.
