Project Goal
Our goal was to use ESRI’s GIS technology to optimize election processes including redistricting, Voter Center location analysis, ADA compliance, ballot security, Voter Center site selection, language assistance allocation through GIS data collection, shipping, logistics, and visualization of election specific data.Business Problem Solved
For ADA compliance, assessments were previously conducted on paper. Using Survey123, OCROV converted California’s Secretary of State’s Polling Place Accessibility Checklist into an electronic data gathering tool that can be accessed using mobile devices while out in the field. For redistricting, GIS drastically reduced the number of staff and the time needed to process new redistricting data to precincts. For ballot security, using Survey123 and ArcGIS Dashboards for data collection and visualization reduced the number of staff needed to monitor and transport ballots. At the same time, it increased both the quantity and quality of ballot location information by providing near-real-time data. For both Vote Center site selection and language assistance support allocation, leveraging GIS technology allowed our office to create workflows for analyzing locations that provided more accuracy and reduced guesswork.
Technology Implemented
We use a host of ArcGIS Products for our operations including ArcGIS Pro, ArcGIS Online, ArcGIS Dashboards, ArcGIS Instant Apps, ArcGIS Experience Builder, and ArcGIS Survey123.
