Project Goal

Namami Gange is a flagship programme of the Government of India for rejuvenation of Ganga and its tributaries. National Mission for Clean Ganga (NMCG) is the implementing authority of this program. Vision is to restore the wholesomeness of river Ganga in terms of Aviral dhara (continuous flow) and Nirmal Dhara (unpolluted flow) along with preserving its ecological and geological identity. Significance of GIS framework had brought a paradigm shift in visualization of all crucial spatial and non-spatial information of Ganga basin to adopt accurate & transparent decision. Namami Gange has been recognized as India’s leading programme in using geospatial technologies towards river basin management and regulating the proposed protected and regulatory zones along the banks of the river.

Business Problem Solved

Mapping the Life & Activities Geo Spatially - A Walk along Ganga river (Live updates during Ganga Utsav). This application was inaugurated by Hon’ble Minister, DG and high Dignitaries during Ganga Utsav. Taking the Technology to field level. 100+ Ganga Mitras ( field force of NMCG) continuously collected the data from river front along with Geotagged photo/ videos and updated regularly in the centrally managed dashboard at NMCG.

Technology Implemented

NMCG engaged Technology Partner- ESRI India for creation of a Dynamically updating Location based Dashboard for the Ganga Utsav every year.
Although NMCG is an existing Enterprise Level user, but due to COVID 19 crisis time, when most of the staff was Remotely working, to Map the Activities of the event- Ganga Utsav, on real time basis and dynamically getting updated on an Activity Briefing Board at Central Office, a Ready to Use solution has been proposed to configure the required –
1. Geo Centric Operations Dashboard–Mapping the Activities related to Awareness and Saving the Environment through –
2. An integrated Mobile App of ArcGIS.
3. A comprehensive Training Session has been provided to All Participants (approx. 100 No’s), who were reporting the Activities using Mobile App for ArcGIS.
4. The Digital Dashboard integrated with Mobile App for ArcGIS has been linked to the Ganga Utsav event Official Website for Ministry, NMCG and all other Stakeholders.
