Project Goal

The Iowa Department of Natural Resources has for more than a decade provided maps and other geospatial information to its customers. Over the last 5 years the DNR has been trying to increase its web mapping presence in all of its applications. Maps and other spatial functionality are an integral part the DNR web presence (www.iowadnr.gov) and over 30 other applications in the DNR application portfolio. These include information it provides to the public through their fishing, hunting and recreation atlas applications, their Special Events Application where event organizers can self-register and pay for events that are held on state owned land and many other conservation and recreation oriented web pages. Location and maps are also heavily utilized throughout the DNR environmental permitting and regulation portals. Applications built for their Threatened and Endangered Species program, Flood Plain permitting, Animal Feeding Operations allow users register locations and make decisions.
