Project Goal
The project goal was to create a suite of web maps and tools that would make Garrett County's data available on the web. This made it necessary to learn (or improve) skills required to create web maps including JavaScript, PHP, HTML, CSS, ArcGIS API for JavaScript, and ArcGIS for Server.Business Problem Solved
By making the County's data available on the website, we reduced the need to answer calls from the public and from other County Departments. Time is also saved when we do field calls, by the ability to e-mail a link crafted to show a specific area of interest.
Technology Implemented
ArcGIS API for JavaScript, ArcGIS for Server, and SQL Server
Development Team Biography
The web maps were developed by GIS Specialist J.B. Churchill (GISP) with some assistance in web development and server administration from our IT Staff (particularly Andrew Sauder). J.B. has been working with GIS in Natural Resources Analysis, Environmental Science, and Natural Gas for about 19 years. He has been interested in web development for almost as long, but never had a good opportunity to focus on it in a "close to full time" capacity. J.B. also maintains the enterprise data used by the site that was developed by the former GIS Specialist (now Director) Deborah Carpenter. Deborah has worked with GIS for many years for this office and is a Certified Planner (AICP).
