Oregon Department of Transportation

Project Goal

Our project modernizes the agency’s Enterprise GIS environment by upgrading core infrastructure and associated desktop software and implementing Esri Roads and Highways to modernize our entire GIS architecture and the linear referencing system. The goal is to improve data quality and provide a foundation for enterprise-wide location-based decision-making.

Business Problem Solved

The agency faced challenges in maintaining duplicate road networks and outdated GIS infrastructure that limited integration, analysis, and cross-program collaboration. By upgrading the Enterprise GIS platform and deploying Roads and Highways, we will establish a single authoritative roadway network, improve data governance, reduce duplication of effort, and enable reliable information sharing across the organization.

Technology Implemented

The solution leverages ArcGIS Enterprise, ArcGIS Pro, and ArcGIS Roads and Highways to deliver modern GIS architecture. Portal for ArcGIS enables secure content sharing, while enterprise geodatabases in SQL Server support versioning and workflow management.

Development Team Biography

The project was delivered by a cross-disciplinary team including GIS analysts, roadway data specialists, IT infrastructure staff, and consultants specializing in Esri linear referencing systems. Team members contributed expertise in enterprise architecture, transportation data management, system administration, and change management to ensure a seamless transition to the upgraded platform.
